SUMATRA EXPEDITION – WILDLIFE AND ADVENTURE: ITINERARY AND DETAILS
Experience amazing adventure during one week trip in Sumatra.
During this adventure you will discover Lake Toba, which was created after the biggest volcano eruption in the world. You will meet the Batak culture and do some trekking in tropical rainforest of Bukit Lawang, which remains one of the last shelters for orangutans on earth.
DAY 1
MEALS DURING THE TRIP

SELAMAT DATANG, WELCOME TO INDONESIA!
Upon arrival to the international airport of Medan, you will have a chance to see the most interesting highlights of the city of Medan. Take a sneak peek inside the Great Mosque, visit the palace of the former Sultan of Medan, or see a number of beautiful Chinese temples. Once lunch is finished, embark on an approximately 3-4 hour drive to Tangahan, passing Binjai and Batang Serangan on the way. Check in in the basic hotel and another culinary adventure in the local restaurant awaits you.
DAY 2

ELEPHANT SAFARI
Time to become a man of the wild! After breakfast we will take you to the river bank where you will learn how to ride an elephant through the vast jungle of Sumatra. Who knows – maybe you will be lucky enough to see Rafflesia – the world’s biggest flower that can only be seen in Sumatra and Borneo. Once the safari is done get wet by jumping on a massive inner tube and wade down the wild river but don’t worry – we’ll make sure that somebody catches you before reaching the ocean. Boost your energy with a tasty lunch and then chill out on the riverbank with a cold beer in your hand. Relax, it’s been an intense day so far… There will be dinner in the evening and another night again in the same guesthouse.
DAY 3

MEETING WITH ORANGUTANS
Grab your breakfast and get ready for an off road drive to Bukit Lawang with your choice of a 4×4 jeep or motorbike, it’s up to you! Once arriving to Bukit Lawang, check into your hotel and have lunch in the restaurant, later on we’ll cross the river by canoe and start trekking through the jungle. By 3PM we should reach the platform used by rangers to feed wild orangutans, a great opportunity to stand eye-to-eye with those magnificent animals. You should be back at the hotel by evening for dinner and a cold beer.
DAY 4

BERASTAGI
After breakfast we will take you to Berastagi City, where you will spend your night today. On the way, you will stop by Sembahe River, where you can have a short refreshing swim or just observe local people and their daily activities. Upon arrival in Berastagi, you will also visit Lhumbini Park where is located the famous duplicate of Shwedagon Pagoda. It’s not the end of today’s activities yet! Later on we will take you to the fruit market, where you can try and buy fruits that doesn’t probably exist in your country. Before check in, you will also have a view on amazing panorama that can be observed from Gundaling Hill. Afternoon time we will take you to the hotel where you can have well deserved rest and some dinner.
DAY 5

TOWARDS THE LAKE
In the morning the trip continues this time by car to Berastagi. Several stops along the way can include traditional fruit and spice markets, visiting the Batak Karo tribe’s village in Dokan, the old Palace of Batak Simalungan Kings, or the spectacular Sipiso-piso Waterfall. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant and by early afternoon expect to arrive in the town of Prapat where you’ll board a ferry to the famous Samosir Island on Lake Toba. This cruise takes approximately one hour and afterwards a check-in to the cottage on the lake is followed by dinner in the restaurant.
DAY 6

TOBA LAKE
All day we’ll be exploring the fascinating island of Samosir, the home of the mysterious Batak Toba people. Driving around the island to enjoy the magnificent views and observe everyday life for local folk, finally we arrive at the ancient graveyard with impressive tombs of long forgotten kings. The rest of the day is time to take a dip or swim in the lake or marinate at one of the hundreds of bars around island. Lake Toba and Samosir Island are one of the biggest highlights of Northern Sumatra and have always been a destination for travelers from all over the world.
DAY 7

TIME TO GO BACK
In the morning you’ll cross Lake Toba back to the town of Prapat. A private car will be waiting for you there and within a 4-5 hours’ drive you should be back to the airport of Medan and check-in for your flight back to Jakarta or other destination.
